Patch Soon

James Sager Articles

I’m world class at designing UI, but UNITY’s UI is weird. It should be ‘What You See Is What You Get’, but it is not always that way. I found a bug in UNITY’s grid system that lets you move it, but it resets later. DOTS/ECS while awesome, still is difficult to interface back and forth. The actual implementation of UI is difficult and my traditional UI helper is busy doing another project. I wanted this patch out a while ago, but there’s a whole host of tiny details that add up to a big mess. Maybe I’ll get a patch out today or tomorrow.

Most people are having difficulty with this planned inflation to destroy America on purpose garbage, but I was already at rock bottom due to family inheritance squabbles. So it’s really hard for me to get by, but I beat most health issues and I’m almost in a rhythm. It’s been 1.7 years and my computer desk is still yet to be set up because I have to keep moving it. Life’s literally extremely difficult, and I’m pushing out an unfunded MMORPG. The only way this happens if God is helping. God please help.

Musing: Casual vs Hardcore gaming

James Sager Articles

Hello,

The word “Hardcore gamer” has gotten demonized along the way to mean bad. But I think in part, this is because it is difficult to cater to a hardcore gamer. It takes more work to satisfy a hardcore gamer much like in music it is hard to appeal to Doors and Beatles fans. It is easier to churn out non-culture with yet another boy band targetting the next generation of young girls with no taste in music. Dr. Dre talked about it this phenomena and while I don’t agree with pushing gangster culture, I do agree about money vs artistic value.

If you make money repackaging cheesy garbage like Electronic Arts does these days, are you really helping the gaming culture? Sure, you’re making money, but does that mean you’re advancing the craft? After all EA is known for buying out and shutting down many gaming studios merely for the fact to destroy competition so they can get away with making money off less effort. I just wanted to draw this point before going into the meat and potatoes: Just because it makes a bunch of money, doesn’t mean you produced something of value.

So I see Master of Orion 2 as around the pinnacle of complexity in video games. Unless you got really really into it, and I mean more than 2,000 hours game play, MOO2 is a mystery in lots of respects of what stuff exactly does. You only could get glimpses of strategies and such (pre internet days).

Since peak complexity (mid-late 90s), the first movement was towards just cleaner UI. I agree, UI needs cleaned up. Even today, Google, Ebay, Windows and even Apple get UI messed up. They’re trending slowly in the right direction, but UI often gets hijacked/sabotaged by the executive/managers because they want to make it look like they did something. Long story short on UI, simplicity and casualfying UI has been a decent success story.

Where the problem lies is the gaming content. Instead of complex gaming mechanics, everything is dumbed down. Instead of Magic the Gathering with diverse rule sets, spells, counter spells, mana, that takes thought in play, we get Hearthstone where basically the game plays itself after you build a deck online. The player’s mind and engagement is almost useless, since you clone a deck online, and it plays itself. The casualifying of the game, makes the games ostensibly worse for game play. There are many many more examples, but don’t want to fortress of text you.

How did we get here? Well, in the mobile arena, and the WOW crowd, we’ve attracted basically non gamers to the culture. They call em casual gamers, but it stretches further than this… These are office workers, executives and people who might not have grown up their first 35 years of their life gaming, but they do have a job and lots of money. Contrast this with 13 year old kids at home on their console who doesn’t have an easily pryable open fat wallet. The target for where the $$ is at has moved from an actual gamer, to people playing things that seem game-like. This target actually stretches what ordinarily would be a pure hardcore gamer game into the land of casual just for money sake. This is part of it, but I get to laziness of game designers in the wake of designing for $$.

We opened this conversation about how the amount of money you make does not directly correlate with the artistic value for the gamer and the gaming community. So what happens is that many game designers get lazy and start trading their art and passion to create for mail it in designs for $$. These game designers realize,”Whether I make a good game or a bad game, as long as I follow some tropes, guidelines and formula, the $$ comes in from the casuals. Why should I cater to the hardcore? After all, hardcore demand a lot of extra work and effort.” No one wants to talk about this. No one wants to look in the mirror and go,”Hey I could be doing better, but who cares as long as checks are coming in. My revenue is the judge of my game design, lets not think about this issue.”

It’s tough to reflect and consider,”Could I be making better games if I tried harder to cater to hardcore?” It’s easier to just bash hardcore gamers with deep culture,”They’ll never be satisfied anyway. They’re rooted in nostalgia. They have too much skill to make something challenging for them and an average player.” The excuses for bashing the true fans of video games goes on and on. I see this in other art forms. Above we talked about how musicians who do boy bands trash Doors fans, Beatles fans and even Metalheads. Boy band regurgitation ain’t having Nsync compete against Offspring or Smashing Pumpkins. Disney has an entire PR wing dedicated to trashing their fans on Facebook,”Why don’t you just enjoy the drivel we slap together nowadays. It’s supposed to be made for kids, and you’re grown adults. Get over it.” In every artistic industry, there’s a group of profiteers, who’s job is to insult die hard fans in order to push re-wrapped garbage for nothing more than stupid cash.

TL:DR Not all casualification of games is good and the put downs on hardcore cultured video gamers should stop too, since these dis tracks often come from game designers not skilled enough to cater to hardcore gamers.

Autotrading may be cool

James Sager Articles

Hello,

I’m only about 1 patch away from putting my old research level networking code in to be full mmo. The patch I need to do before it is buying and selling at stations… But I thought, the user could save a lot more time if they in their inventory labeled the minimum they’d accept for selling items like iron or ship augmentations or gasses, etc. Then all they’d need to do is drive by a station and it auto sells with a pleasant tween animation +X $ or credits and a nice sound.

Players could do this with other players too:

Autotrade buy item X for y$ or z credits.

Autotrade minimum sell item A for B$ or C credits.

Pass by a player, ching ching ching, auto trades!

A skill could even be had called negotiation: where you can get edge case deals in your favor. One player with negotiation says I’ll sell iron for 4$ another player says I’ll buy iron for 5$, you pass by, and instead of buying for 4$, you buy for 4.25$ because of a good negotiation roll by seller.

What do you think about a system like this? It’d save time flying around, it could get complicated with trading, but it could do weird popular zone mechanics… Like some players would be just flying their ships around everyone hoping for auto trades. When you scan a ship, it could show their auto trade tables so you know values… Kinda like an auction house, but decentralized… Sounds cool, eh. I should do it eh?

I just thought of it and want to sleep on it, let me know what you think.

Starfighter General has a realistic true economy where vendors don’t buy stuff unless they sold product and have liquidity. https://www.starfightergeneral.com/2022/08/true-economy-stations-to-sell-buy-rob/ All the players on an entire server is not selling one poor businessman tons of luxury yachts to get billions. It’s a buy/trade economy from different systems that ends up balancing prices due to supply/demand and trade route impacts.

Virt Goods Responsibility Pledge

James Sager Articles

I want to improve the industry in more ways than making better games. I want to respect player’s wallets. I want to design my games not to exploit you to buy stuff. I want the game to be fun, not pry money from you til you’re mad you ever bought the game. Reddit’s MMORPG group helped me forge a pledge of player’s rights: https://www.starfightergeneral.com/2021/10/player-bill-of-rights/

I added them to the store which if you believe this is the way companies should be headed, please support the cause if you’re getting by: https://store.steampowered.com/itemstore/658480/browse/?filter=all

Patch VI out, News Ticker with graphics

James Sager Articles

The news ticker at the bottom will constantly be getting more news items every patch.

Now it displays a fun or funny AI with the news item, and there many pictures per news item, sometimes over 200 to choose from randomly! This is to not get ya bored, but maybe stoked to see the next fat dolphin, or the next derpy looking guy with coffee that fried his brain. Its fun, funny and I needed to put it in, but it was mainly just to get addressables tech working.

Long story short, Addressables has about 5-6 bug you have to work on to get em to work. UNITY says these bugs do not exist, but other users say they do. I’ve seen em(cost me 500 hours of development time this year literally), didn’t know if I could work around em, but now I know I can use these for the long haul.

Since Addressables tech in, it opens many doors for the future.

Next two patches, exciting stuff:

VII) BUY/SELL/ROB of space stations and other actions like DOCK/Hail/Scan/ETC

VIII) Full Scale multiplayer code in. I have the most advanced multiplayer code on Earth, been sitting since 2004. I tried to sell it to a 2d fighter and they said it was impossible, despite I actively playing it with friends in an inhouse 3d fighter world MMO. Now all the 2 fighters use the rollback component I codiscovered. Long story short, multiplayer battles in Starfighter General will be bigger than any space game ever, and action oriented combat as well. You could have everyone on Earth play in one action zone, and you’re limited only by GPU and other hardware… Let that sink in, you’re about to experience something no one ever has experienced ever and its just a boring core tech, not the awesome story, plot, game mechanics or live role play that can change ANYTHING In the game, like you’re truely living in a acive Space Opera.

Bonus: Don’t forget the best live role play will go in movies. So pick up a founder’s medallion or two while they’re still for sale because they’ll never be for sale ever again, and you can sell/trade them if you want: https://store.steampowered.com/itemstore/658480/browse/?filter=all Any virtual goods purchase literally help me develop the game more effective as I do not struggle with day to day expenses and get more code in. If you like the game, or want the game to get better and have more than enough to get by, consider it. Founders Medallions, they can help your character get in the actual movie theater.

Unity Fuels Divisions

James Sager Articles

If you wonder why I didn’t get my update on time, I had to spend some time standing up for my rights as a US Citizen under the 1960s civil rights act. Unity Employees pushed hate and exclusion on me targeting me for no reason that I’m a Christian.

I was excitedly telling Official Corporate Unity developers some of my achievements seeing how I thought they’d want to hire me in discord, and these official UNITY employees started hating me for being Christian. I don’t look for fights, I was excitedly hoping to get a job! Then this Unity Employee Osteel guy who’s hated me for being a Christian in the past jumped in and started trouble, then his friends jumped in, unfairly called me a liar(I haven’t lied in 19 years since finding Jesus), and others slandered me, while they all congratulated each other on insults given to me. This is tribal mob behavior, and some of these guys are Official Unity Employees acting incredibly unprofessional as they break 1960s civil rights act in their hatred and lies.

I brought this to the attention of Unity corporate and the CEO John Riccitiello and they did not choose to apologize. I’ve tried HARD since 1980 to be a pro gamer/coder/designer. To date I have over 150,000 hours in it, a Carnegie Mellon CS degree, and many games made because no BIG TECH would hire me out of college, I put out 1000 resumes and talked to 100 head hunters. Despite vast success in school and home projects with a CS degree in an indemand field, I couldn’t get even an entry level job: www.starfightergeneral.com www.crystalfighter.com So I know my stuff to a huge degree, spent years and years behind a computer making games, and when I do make games, BIG TECH doesn’t honor their side of the contract.

MTV/Shockwave/Defy media alone owed our company an estimated 600,000-1 MILLION DOLLARS in royalties from ads, they gave us none, Apple wouldn’t let us update our game, Google takes our games down, Kongregate lied that we could use virtual goods, Twitch/Amazon banned me for talking about Christians being executed in China and Hong Kong.

I have student loans in my 40s man from all these BIG TECH companies scamming me. I have two bank accounts each with one penny last week, then ran out of food and my car broke down, so I had to get family to get me so I could even survive. BIG TECH ripping off Christians and discriminating is no joke, they think they can censor it all away, or claim they don’t hire us because we lack skill… I think this is why UNITY3d does not apologize, they think it will make them look bad if they admit fault or something. No it makes you look bad to not apologize. It says the entire organization from the top CEO down stands for the hatred and slander acts of their employees. I’m understood why this CEO got in trouble in the news before, but this is way worse than what he did before.

I’ve not only coded entire projects myself, but I’ve been #1 world in games like Starcraft/Warcraft3 www.crystalfighter.com/a.html I’m not asking for the world to be a top senior engineer, but Big Tech would not hire me as an intern, jr, or any job. Hyperbole is there to say,”Why does a man of my caliber, skill set and dedication never get a single chance?” This is why I was passionate to finally talk to some UNITY employees to show them my skill set. I thought,’Surely I could impress em and get a low paying job to start, then impress em with my work and get paid what a normal software engineer gets paid.’ When a user asked if I could do better than Unity Software Engineers, I was trying to explain,”Yes, in certain ways I can do better than top software engineers, and they can do better in many ways than me. That’s why I’d be a good fit.” But before I could excitedly give my credentials, Unity’s Osteel started the hate fest and muted me.

If a lifelong try hard overachiever can’t get a chance, the system is rigged. When I finally got the chance to talk to official UNITY Corporate developers, I thought I could impress em with achievements and finally, finally get in with a company… Nah, they started making fun of me because I’m Christian and it became a hate fest, watch for yourself:

It does go on for 2 hours, because I explain how censorship and discrimination of Christians is rampant in Big Tech these days… This is why it is important not to have censorship and why we can’t let government take away free speech: https://fatherspiritson.com/2022/08/advanced-legal-communication-correspondence-usas-freedom-of-speech-applies-to-social-media/

The fact that Corporate Unity remains silent on this without giving me a rapid apology is a sign that they support and endorse the hate pushed by their employees towards Christians users wanting to contribute to the community. I did nothing to incur this guy’s Osteel’s hate. He unfairly targetted me. He claimed I posted too much, but I posted far less than others. He would merrily come down and tell me to stop posting every time I posted something which he did not do to others. If you watch the video, he claims not to hate me, but his friends and him show their true colors, as they congratulate each other on their hatred and slanderous lies about me. These are official UNITY3d employees, hating on passionate users who want to help. Why does the CEO John Riccitiello support hatred of Christians? He’s the one who unapologetically fostered this anti-Christian community.

I have a lawsuit I have to prepare for Linkedin. They banned me from Linkedin for raising awareness of discrimination and exclusion in Big Tech against Christians. Yes, this is not an ironic joke, you can watch this video to see: https://rumble.com/vpe3in-banned-on-linkedin-for-complaining-about-liberal-discrimination-in-tech-aga.html . Big Tech Linkedin excluded me because I was raising awareness of Christians being excluded by Big Tech. This actually happened, twice. I contacted the California Department of fair Employment who won vs Blizzard Entertainment to get on this case. So I have to prepare for the 26th which takes a lot of time out of my game dev time. I don’t think I’ll win though I should because Christians don’t have rights in America anymore, but I have to stand for human rights abuses and Freedom of Speech. I asked Linkedin just for an apology, and they would not do so. I’m very forgiving, but if they continue to do wrong, it must be known they choose to do wrong and stand behind their wrong. It is not right to hate anyone due to their race, sex or religion.

I just want to be developing, but standing up for my rights as a US Citizen not worthy to be hated due to my religion takes significant time. This is why I wish companies would just apologize up front instead of declaring,”We’re UNITY3D and we stand behind the actions of everyone in our corporation even when they hate of people due to race, sex or religion. This fallen world man, UNITY3D runs advertisement campaigns saying they don’t do this, but in actuality where the rubber hits the road, they discriminate very hard and stand behind it! All I ask for is an apology, they’re free to give.

MMO multiplayer cometh

James Sager Articles

Turns out… I don’t just have the best multiplayer code on Earth that supports infinite players in the same zone, But also Unity3d is looking to buy the best multiplayer code they can find.

This multiplayer code is beyond awesome. It has basic security standard to everyone’s knowledge, ways of just watching the video to see what changed in the game for security game masters to root out who hacked what, and player policing, so the security has worked in many games, nothing new here. It doesn’t just do infinite players same zone, it also is cross platform Steam/Android/Iphone/ipad/Mac/Linux/Windows/Xbox/PSx/Nintendo/potatoes….

It’s funny… I’m probably gonna get bought out like no other because I have two MAJOR IN DEMAND multiplayer TECHS by Two major players: Steam/Valve who approached cross play with Android/Iphone/Steam with Steamdeck after Apple/Android denied em a deal…. Why didn’t steam just set up their own cross platform unifier like I did? Steam, you can buy me out, people can link their android/iphone with their steam account with my server. So when they’re on the bus, they access their steam account. I have possible right now.

So Steam/Valve would want to buy me some techs of mine.

But Unity is DYING to get out of the box MMO/RTS/FPS/action code, and I’ve had it sitting around since 2004. I tried selling it to ‘a gory 2d fighter company’ and their hiring manager called me an insulting names on the phone explaining how the roll back code in every fighter was IMPOSSIBLE. Lets ignore the unprofessionalism of Midway at this point, just focus on I independently discovered/researched rollback code… And know the MMO code has research techs are way way better than that!

So since I’m in demand and the reason people aren’t beating on my door with giant bats made of dollar bills is that they’re in disbelief, time to execute to that point ASAP.

Guys, gals, Three patches coming.

Tomorrow/Tonight: GNN ticker gets graphics and some more news items
A few days: Buy sell at stations.
2 weeks after that (or less I hope): FULL Basic MMORPG functionality in. OH YEAH It’s ON BABY!

PS, sorry no updates last week, I have 2 bank accounts and a total of 1 cent in each of them, I ran out of food and my place had no water + my car would not start. So I had to get family to pick me up and help em out with odd jobs while they fed me and got me some water. I have a gamer friend who knows me as the Greatest Video Gamer of All time, 150,000 hours gaming/coding/design who believes in me and dropped me a few bucks to keep going on! Reminds me of that Will Smith movie where the homeless guy finally gets a chance, that’s my life… And it’s weird since I’ve excelled at Computer Programming with a CS degree from Carnegie Mellon started coding at 3…. Why would a guy like me never get a chance? Why would when I do make games on my own Big Tech takes my work and doesn’t pay royalties. I’m not broke by choice. I’m actually one of the world’s greatest talents in game develop, I think it may be due to discrimination against me believing in the God of Love which Big Tech culture is against…

Either way, we’re gonna make it! In my mid 40s, student loans, barely any change to scrape by, no running water, no kickstarter, no crowdsource, and one or more of the following three things happens soon:

1) Steam/Valve buys my server tech that connects Steam accounts to Android/Iphone accounts like they wanted.

2) Unity buys my secure multiplayer code, the best multiplayer code on Earth.

3) We just start playing a really fun MMORPG.

Take care guys, it’s about to be awesome, founders medallions are no longer going to be for sale soon once we start taking in revenue and will never be able to bought ever again, though you can sell/trade them… Some trading cards are now going for over 10,000$… Now imagine a token which helps your chances of being in live role play which can get you in the movie theatres.

,Jim

Galactic News Network to get Images!

James Sager Articles

When the Galactic News Network does its dystopian ticker, you get a randomized image of that GNN!

IE: Rich and well loved Aristocrat Albrecht Mackinley the 99th purchased some no name agricultural planet and made something of it by turning the entire planet into a rental storage unit shop.

Then it would randly pick one the following images to show:

IE2: Tonight on House of Scary network ‘It’d Be Bad to be a Wereslug’. Watch a man with everything, style, class, a family, throw it all away when he discovers he’s a Wereslug. He turns to Margaritas then searches for his lost shaker of salt.

PS: Sorry for no updates for 2 days. I literally ran entirely out of money/food/water so I had to hustle just to survive and didn’t get any time to be behind computer. Starving Artist achievement unlocked: Two bank accounts each with only 1 penny and less than 10 cents in change in my wallet! I’m okay now, friends, fam n at bailed me out.

Mercantile Prep Patch V, scope lessened

James Sager Articles

Hello,

I plan on having character creation / GNN with images for a patch in the next few days.

There’s a lot of back end core tech here so I didn’t want to rush it.

My art book, Space Road Truckers is out: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BCDPJDX9?ref_=pe_3052080_397514860 or https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BCCVTMQ3?ref_=pe_3052080_397514860

In Starfighter General, just as Spaceballs, you can put warp drive on anything. There is an invention known as a warp drive oscillating reverb condenser(orc). It slows your forward speed while conserving momentum by adding molecular stability dark energy mass… So the further you travel in a straight line, the more impact you can absorb. You appear to be travelling slow, but can have a huge momentum and resistance to damage because of molecular stability. So vehicles with ORCs can plow straight through capital ships, planets and such without breaking a sweat. The only defenses really are staying out of their way or warp interdictors which see the signature a long way off. As such most every planet has multiple warp interdictors to stop vandals.

It’s not a Merchantile Prep Patch notes without some Mechs, because Merchants are boring.

Space Road Truckin, An Art book

James Sager Articles

Hello, I made an art book called Space Road Truckin yesterday as I gained art for Starfighter General.

I’ll set up a second ‘puter to harvest these automatically as I code today.

I found other cool art too.

I like this AI generated image. It presents a fan hiding the foundation of a Torii building. You can see and look, there is no foundation, just a tossing sea. Yet, the fan is there, like an illusion in hopes others see that your life is not tempest tossed, but standing straight. I can’t explain how powerful of a painting this is that AI generated by chance.

Merchantile Prep Patch

James Sager Articles

Looks like I’m trimming down scope this patch. I just want to get character creation in and then buying/selling of iron at stations. Developing is very difficult since I ran out of water yesterday and spent hours getting it. If I run out of water, I can’t even make beans. Imagine if I was funded even a teeny bit, I’d get so much more work done. Oh well can’t complain, no one cares anyway, lol. Hey check it, Merchantile Preparation is such a boring patch name, so I give you Mecha Preparation pictures. :)
