Starfighter will be a MASSIVE Game

James Sager Articles

Expect Starfighter to swell to 500 GB very fast, and then over the course of two years get to 2,000 to 4,000 GB aka 4 TB. The idea is this game is huge. It has many assets. It has lots of music. It has lots of enemies. It has lots of stuff. This game is a behemoth for those who like big games. It only costs 100$ for a 4 TB hard drive now, so for a boss game you’ll spend years on, ain’t no big deal. This is how we make big games, and be prepped. Update droppin tonight or in the morning, music coming.

Derp Robots are The Universe’s Greatest Threat

James Sager Articles

While these robots malfunction, barely function and don’t know what they’re doing, they’re coming… But where they’re going, when they’re coming or what their purpose is still such a mystery they too don’t know it.

One thing is certain, they might be easy to defeat, but the factories making them won’t stop and they are a menace. Don’t laugh at their awkward gait or it might be too late. You can’t predict that which does not know what it’s doing. Attack of the Derp Robots!

Personality every NPC has 120.

James Sager Articles

Much like games as Civilization have 6 personalities to guide Emporer’s decisions, all NPCs have about 120 personalities in Starfighter General. They guide their decisions, though not relevant to every occupation, NPCs may change occupation.

Dropping Scrap now

James Sager Articles

All left:

->Pick up scrap
->Give Player hit points
->Blow up restart
3) Buy
4) Blow up stuff
4.5) Ratify stuff below

3 hrs left on that

10-30 hrs network finalization

Ships follow waypoints and battle.

James Sager Articles

Check out a space ship moba in dots almost done, with research level networking being finalized in:

They follow way points, target acquire, see damage on hit, have hit points, all that GameObject stuff. About 3-4 years ago when I first made Starfighter General, it was a functional 10 player vs 10 player space moba, as you see.

It took me 2 weeks, and I only used Unity once before to do the Rollaball tutorial. The whole idea of a moba came from 2d starfighter tutorial SHMUP, but I added a 3rd dimension and everything was easy… Except Unity fees for keeping a multiplayer server is insane, and no one wanted to beta test… Yet the game was fun.

Instructions: Blow up enemy drones, collect scrap.

Scrap can buy upgrades at base.

Collect allied drone scrap to deny their pick up and buy.

If you explode before you come back to base, you lose all your scrap.

You can “recall” aka hyper space and be cancelled.

Destroyers are like towers, safe to shoot when drones park near by shooting. Otherwise they do a lot of damage to you and even the best evasive maneuvers are barely worth doing to put damage down.

The game plays like League of Legends meets Xwing vs Tiefighter in space. Yes, Xwing in space! (just making fun of my grammar mistake). Anyway, I always wanted play testers for my moba so I kept trying to make a game to attract core players… Maybe this MMORPG engine will work.

The MOBA right now will just test the MMORPG networking and game play.

Bonus: A story about my video game play: I trained 10 hours a day for 2 full decades starting in 1980. People knew even in the arcades, I was not of this world. I didn’t like the movie “The Wizard” because it was not believable. People thought of a top notch video gamer as a kid was unbelievable, nah… What was unbelievable was him travelling in a bus to a tourney… None were around anywhere. I spent all of 1980-1989 practicing for a tourney and only the Nintendo World Championships come out. I was told I was the #1 score in Pittsburgh at 12 years old that didn’t use Turtle Tip. I wish records were around of that event, you can’t find em since Nintendo was embarrassed people abused Turtle Tip. Huge line for Mario 3. So I played other games. It was a glorious time though, played Contra 2. LOTS of fun games. The most fun, and still the most fun to this day in my book: River City Ransom. Combat was better NES, but River City Girls has a legit funny and very well done storyline. Also I rember Gargoyle Quest for Gameboy being awesome……………………………………………. Then eight more years, trying to make a MMORPG in my PNP RPG my friends said was more fun than D&D, Gurps, Paranoia, Vampire the Masquerade, GhostBusters, TMNT, you name it we played most of em, and they loved my game. I quit trying to make my game when UO came out, for I knew how MMORPG communities are fickle and they had better graphics. So I was #1 on ladder, no one wanted to mess with me, but before this tourney my opponent knew he was no match for me on a heads up fight, so he spygated like Patriots in football my builds. I should have expected 4 pool since he kept going on and on how he doesn’t expect to win, and more people than not on Battle.net knew I was the dominant favorite. He won that four pool. Then he won on my boss map, where I did DT drop + corsair air superiority. I was 72-0 that season on Dire Straights, but he had a spy know my build. He picked random on Dire, ended up as terran. Was in the last place I scouted, when my shuttle went home with DT, it got killed by missile turrets just going up on his fast expand. He literally was gifted the most perfect opener.

Dawn of Darkness

James Sager Articles

This is a game idea I will not use: “Dawn of Darkness”

If you use this idea, maybe help a broke dude out. I’ve helped Westwood, Blizzard and more, and they never helped back.

Game idea: It spawns a procedurally generated open world like GTA or Last of Us.

There’s a mad scientist, and he awakens dark evils that start having dark overcome light. Like first the sun shines less and less. Then it is never day. You need to non stop have supplies to keep lights up or be “Eaten by a Grue”, aka lack of light has punk enemies attack you. But it gets worse. As time goes on, deep darkness arises, that even flashlights cannot penetrate, at which time the enemies are even more horrific and very tall like colossus from Protoss Starcraft2.

You can win, but you need to track down a few locations, and end the vortex. The game plays like Groundhog day though til you have a perfect ending… And there are non perfect endings that are psychologically disturbing. For instance, if you know WHO causes the nether portal to open, you can just straight up go to his house and kill him in his sleep before he even thinks of doing such an evil. The ending to that will be you winding up in jail or insane asylum ranting how you saved the world. Then it will be a very long ending, watching you rot and die. Then when you awake, its the same random seed level to do over again. Another disturbing one is that you get blamed for the whole thing after stopping the mad scientist because some how he pins it on you cuz he knows he did it.

So you have roguelike apocalypse horror/survival.

But you also have a win condition.

And partial completion clues helps you win the replays.

PS: Good game dev today of Starfighter General

Stuff Blowing Up Network: S-BUN

James Sager Articles

Every good futuristic cyber dystopia needs a channel dedicated to the base degeneration of idiotic man. And nothing better than S-Bun. We don’t care if it is an act of man, an act of God, or an act of stupidity, we air the biggest of splosions. We’ll take even some stuff imploding, side ploding or offloading wrong. If it is a disaster, it belongs on air on S-Bun. Home of the Boom!

Have a Hippy New Year

James Sager Articles

Remember games like Master of Orion, Civilization and Risk? That plays out in StarfighterGeneral.com behind the scenes. The emperors in those games had about 8 personality traits to see how they acted. Every single NPC in StarfighterGeneral, ruler, vendor or enemy… They have 160 personality trait sliders.

Long story short: as you build forces, train soldiers and have civilians make production… One thing enemy rulers can do is convince your people to not fight. They’ll push in protestors and propaganda to convince your people to become pacifistic non working hippies. And that’s totally fun, until your worlds are destroyed. Have fun 2022, lets hope the world doesn’t destroy itself. I want this game out. :)

Gibblets

James Sager Articles

A race of completely incompetent hamster style aliens with technology far exceeding anyone’s imagination. Because everything was automated, they never needed to try, and since they don’t go to school, they’re pretty dumb, like one would expect a hamster to be… But don’t get on their bad side because their alien tech can destroy just about anything.
